Solar arrays 
The “MIURA-ORI” fold is used for satellite solar arrays.  

Advantage: They can be folded and unfolded in a single motion!

Telescopes of the future

Problem: NASA and ESA want to send large telescopes into space (with lenses up to 25 m in diameter). The largest launchers, however, measure five to six meters in diameter.

Solution: Use origami techniques to fold the telescope lens and deploy it in space.

Scientists at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in the United States are building folding models for different-size lenses.
